Ed Mayer:

Hello everybody, welcome, welcome from the sweetest place on earth, Hershey, Pennsylvania. This is Ed Mayer, the host of the Edward Mayer talk radio show. I’m real excited that you guys are here today.  I’ve got a great show lined up with an incredible gentleman that I have a lot of respect for. Today is April 15th.  I like to plug the date on there to keep things live and again we’re live from Hershey, Pennsylvania. So first of all, the gentleman that we’re going to have on today his name is Mr. Eric Caprarese.  Eric hails from right outside of Washington DC on the east coast and he’s a father of 2 boys. Eric is the number one income earner with his network marketing company and Honorary Founder.  So Eric has been with his company since the beginning and that’s the premise of this show is never quitting, never giving up and I think it’s going to be real exciting for all you guys to be able to relate to a lot of things that Eric’s going to talk about. And one of the newest things that I cannot leave out that I got to get in , Eric has just been put in to the top 100 MLM mentors, so I want to congratulate you on that Eric and all your success and welcome to the show my friend.

Eric Caprarese:

Hey thanks Ed, I appreciate it, this is absolutely an honor to be on this show with you. Well, it is an honor to have you here and lets have some fun, lets give these people some great information on never quitting and never giving up and just living your dreams man.

Ed Mayer:

Now network marketing, as industry, is as far as I’m concerned personally is the best industry in the world.  Now I know you’ve been around it for many, many years.  Why have you chosen network marketing? You know Ed, I’ve been in those bad places that most of us if we haven’t been, sadly we’re going to be in one time or another.  I’ve been bankrupt not once but twice.  I’ve lived in the little one bedroom apartment with my two sons and had SWAT teams usher me out you know, so I know what it’s like to live in a bad section of town and live from paycheck to paycheck just to be able to afford that not so wonderful place to live. I know what its like to have a car breaking down and then when it finally got me to work I’d be mad that it got me to work.  I know what a J-O-B, which I always say stands for just over broke, which is what I was, I know what that’s all about.  Even with a college degree, even lucky enough at the time to have a job and I wasn’t free and I wasn’t living my life.  And there’s so many people  not just here in the United States, but worldwide that are really not living. When I talk to a family that says, you know they’ve got 3 or 4 kids and they’ve never experienced even a family vacation, I realise there’s  a lot of people who need what we’ve got. And there’s very few industries that enable someone that might have no experience or very little money in the bank or little to no education to really finally be financially set to where you can be free and that’s why I chose this industry a little over 20 years ago. And, you know I left the industry and I’ve got a story for why, but I left the industry for about 5 years and went back out to the job market and I’m telling you Ed, this industry is like none other, once it’s in your system and once it’s in your blood, it’s very difficult to leave it for good and I’m super excited to talk about never giving up and never quitting. I’m motivated to let everyone know, you know what our message is today and this industry has definitely been a blessing and an answer to my family.  That kind of answers it I hope for you Ed.

Ed Mayer:

Yea definitely, definitely.  And I mean you kind of answered my next question too, like you know you said earlier that you’ve been around the industry for about 20 years and my next question was going to be why are you still in the industry.  I think you touched on it a little bit basically saying that… I’ll let you just add to what you said just a minute ago as to why you’re still in the network marketing home based business industry.

Eric Caprarese:

You know what, the greatest day and it’s a day that I’ll never forget, was when I took my alarm clock, and I unplugged it and I wrapped the cord around it and I threw the alarm clock away.  It’s one of those alarm clocks that when it rang in the morning I swore if you ever could have a heart attack that would be when you’d have it, because it was just so loud and obnoxious it just scared the heck outta me for years. And when I threw that alarm clock away Ed, it really was a freedom.  And what it represented was the fact that I didn’t need that alarm clock.  I don’t need to have a set schedule anymore.  I didn’t need to get up first thing in the morning and go jump in my car, and rush to get in to traffic and sit there for an hour, hour and a half every morning in the Washington DC traffic. You know that freedom again, I can’t emphasise it enough, it really is a great, great feeling and it’s almost once you’ve experienced it, I hate to call it an addiction because I would think that has a negative connotation, but it really is a feeling that is just so wonderful and to know that with our industry we can affect and touch so many others not just here in the States but worldwide with our industry and give them that freedom, that’s what keeps me here, that’s what’s kept me here and brought me back at one point like I said when I walked away for a little while. But it’s definitely what drives me on a day to day basis and keeps me fired up.  You know you said at the beginning of this call, let’s have fun, I mean heck my kids think I just laugh and joke all day on the phone.  And they don’t understand how we can afford the cars and the nice home and the trips because they think dad just has a good time at work every day.  And we do, we have a blast.  I mean Ed, you know that, we enjoy what we do and we’re touching lives in a positive way, and impacting lives in a positive way and we’re having a good time doing it.

Ed Mayer:

Absolutely agree Eric, I mean that’s the same reasons why I love the industry, I mean just the freedoms that it gives, the stability, the ability to stay in bed longer or get up you know, at any time you want and for the listeners, you know, throwing an alarm clock out might sound a little off the wall or a little crazy or a little stupid. But you know for Eric, I mean and again remember Eric’s been with this company since the beginning that he’s with and you know he’s the number one income earner.  So you know, saying throwing away an alarm clock might catch you off guard, rather that somebody saying you know, all the money and time freedom that there is, Eric remembers the day that he could throw away his alarm clock and it’s different for everybody and that’s the beauty of the industry.  Different results for everybody, not everybody wants to be full time, some people just want to make a couple hundred extra bucks and you can absolutely do that in this industry. Eric, now I know again, 20 years, and we all know that if you’ve been in this industry for any length of time you know that it’s not all a bed of roses, right?

Eric Caprarese:

You bet.

Ed Mayer:

I mean there’s struggles, things to overcome, learning, personal development, all that. If you can maybe touch on a struggle in the industry that you might have encountered and what you’ve done to move past that and build from that struggle.

Eric Caprarese:

Yea, you know Ed, if you’re in the game and you’re serious about this business then you can treat it two ways. You can treat it like a hobby, hobbies typically cost you money.  I didn’t want to treat it like a hobby, I didn’t have the money to spend on a hobby. I treated this like my future.  If you’ve ever heard of motivation from desperation, that’s where I was at.  And I’m here to tell you, I’ve been burnt by the best of them.  I’ve gotten involved with those companies that were ground floor opportunities that never got off the ground.  I’ve been involved on the other end with companies that have been around for 30 or 40 years that really in my opinion the timing had past, I couldn’t really catch traction and didn’t feel like it was really the best for me. I’ve built friendships with people that sadly I didn’t realise weren’t my friends until after the fact.  You know and I’ve lost a lot of money in the industry. You know my thing is this: I never give up and I don’t give up because I have a big why, W-H-Y.  And my “whys” sit all around my desk, from pictures of my kids, to pictures of my future home that I want, to pictures of, you know these are fun things, my future car that I want, to a picture of Renzo who’s out of the Philippines that we financially support for the last 3 years.  These are my “whys”. This is what keep me, Eric Caprarese in the game. And to know that there’s over 70 thousand people entering the network marketing arena every single day around the world.  70 thousand are entering our industry.  They need to hear what we have to say, they need to know that giving up is not an option. Quitting is not an option. Changing companies, that might be an option, that might be a necessity.  When the company fails you, you got to do what you got to do.  You’ve got to move on.  But never quitting this industry is essential, because this is one of those few industries, and I say few, I don’t know of any other industry out there that does what this industry does for us.  It’s an industry that everyone needs to be touched one way or another by. If it’s not just buying great products that can change your life you know physically, it can touch people’s lives financially if that’s the route they want to go.  And if nothing else, you know what, if you just offer this opportunity or this industry to people out there, they either grab hold of it or they don’t.  And if they don’t that’s fine.  I have some family members that don’t,  and that’s fine they’re going down a different path.  But I think it’s our goal, well it’s my goal at least, and I think it should be all of ours, to really get the word out to the masses. Again, 70 thousand people a day can’t be wrong.  It goes to show this industry is a viable industry that people need to take notice of.   But also, when they get involved they need to stick with the industry, you can never give up.  And I know you wanted me to touch on that because that’s how I’ve made my money with my company, is I never gave up. I stayed focussed, I stayed steadfast.  When times were tough and other people were jumping out I could have done it very easily.  But I didn’t want to go back to a J-O-B.  I didn’t want to go to a start up company or a company that’s “been around forever” and is “super stable” but you can’t make any money there.  I wanted to stay steadfast and focussed and keep my head down and drive it and that’s what I’ve done and I’ve been, you know, successful with it. You know,  a little over 300 thousand dealers later in my personal organisation, and multiple seven figures, and I’m not saying that to impress , but impress upon everyone the fact that if you stay focussed, stay steadfast and are in the right opportunity with the right team, you can make it too. So, you know, never giving up is obviously my  motto on a day to day basis. And there are times Ed, when  I just want to throw in the towel and then I look around my office and see my “why’s” all around me and that keeps me in the game.

Ed Mayer:

And that’s awesome and I mean you’re nailing these questions for me before I even ask them which is awesome but you know, you touched upon the “why”.  And you know I wanted to ask you how important is having a “why”.  I think you answered that.  You have to have a driving force.  You know in the home based business industry we refer to that as the “why”. Can you give people a little bit of an in depth look as to how important putting a simple picture or a simple phrase…

Eric Caprarese:

Beautiful, beautiful

Ed Mayer:

…somewhere where you can see it every single day, how important is that?

Eric Caprarese:

That’s funny Ed, while you were talking I was literally going to go down that direction because I’m such a big believer in that. In fact I just posted a picture today of one of my distributors who was standing next to a brand new Aston Martin, a $200,000 car.  And she took that picture, her husband actually did it for her and that is their dream. And to go to a dealership and take pictures of yourself in front of your dream car, or to go drive through that neighbourhood of those luxury homes that maybe you one day you want to live in.  Or to go and research out the charity that you one day want to be able to you know, obviously donate money to. You know, you’ve got to take that action, you’ve got to put it out there in front of you, you’ve got to know that it’s going to happen for you and you’ve got to visualize it on a day to day basis. And that is, some people call them dream boards, I don’t know if you’ve heard of that, and I always rolled my eyes and thought how hokey a dream board was.  This board, literally something I used to do when I was in maybe 3rd or 4th grade, a big piece of poster board that you put a bunch of pictures on, and I thought “Boy that’s ridiculous”. Well guess what, I mean I can tell you a true life story of me literally 5 years ago carrying out a picture, which I never did, but it was a picture that just, just absolutely grabbed my attention, and it was of this beautiful living room, and you think, “a living room that’s silly”, and I’m not real big in to furniture or furnishings or décor.  I just said, “I love that living room, that’s beautiful”.  And I remember carrying it out and I stuck it out 5 years ago.  Well, a few months ago, I had my family over and I was going through my drawer and I saw a bunch of pictures and I went to pull them out, my parents were there, my girlfriend, my 2 kids, and I ran across that picture and I pulled the picture out and I turned around and I walked over to my family, and I said, “Everyone come over here”.  And I said, “What does this picture look like to you?”. And without any hesitation, they said, “This is your living room.” And I never planned it that way.  It was in my mind that that was a goal that I had.  I visualized it, I had it in my possession, that picture, and I’m telling you right now, when my place was decorated it wasn’t decorated by looking at that picture.  It was just pieced together.  And it was something in the back of my mind.  So if you keep in front of you those goals, whatever they may be. And again, I have pictures, I think as you probably saw I put a picture up on Facebook the other day of three of my “whys”.  I was holding them in my hand and I said I have them around my office. It’s very important to visualize where you want to be, and if you don’t have a goal, write it down.  In fact I’m going to do this right now.  I have right here in front of me, I just pulled it up.

  • Help someone new daily.  Is one of my goals that I have written down.
  • A million dollars a year, ok I have an extra, a million dollars a year by 2011.
  • A new Ferrari by 2012.
  • A new second home by 2013.

I signed it Eric Caprarese, the date was 10-2-10. Ok, I literally just pulled this up, this is sitting here in my office right now, I wrote this down and I signed it and these are part of my goals, and I didn’t plan on pulling that up, but I just happened as I’m here in my office I looked around and I just saw that.  So that’s proof, that’s just how I live and that’s just part of my lifestyle and it works.

Ed Mayer:

Absolutely agree, absolutely agree.  Hopefully everybody that’s listening and everybody that’s going to listen to this recording down the line, you know it’s simple.  Keep it simple, keep it fun.  That’s how life is supposed to be lived.  Have fun, live it, you know.  Just simple pictures, your dream home, your dream car, a boat, you know anything, anything that excites you and anything you want to have down the line, just get it written down. That’s awesome Eric, man I  just love it.  I love hearing all these little tidbits you have.  You know, it’s the little things that make a huge difference and I appreciate that.

Eric Caprarese:

Can I add one more thing.  I don’t know if you were summing it up.  I really wanted to emphasise.

Ed Mayer:

Go ahead.

Eric Caprarese:

This is important, I don’t do a lot of interviews, I do a few every year, so I really appreciate you getting this out.  I’ll get people who have heard interviews from me from 3 or 4 years ago, and it’s neat for them to say, you know I really appreciate that bit of information that you gave Eric.  And it might have been something that I thought wasn’t really instrumental in anyone’s lives but it obviously was for that person. If I were to teach one thing today, and I’m not a teacher, I’m not a trainer, I’m the first one to tell you with my ADD I can’t focus in on anything, but one thing I’ve learned in my 20 years of networking that I do want to tap in to today and I hope people really take to heart is:

You need to surround yourself with serious like minded individuals.  People that can prove to you that they are actually making the money that they say they’re making in this industry.

There’s a lot of self proclaimed gurus in this industry, and if you follow them you could waste 6 months, a year, 2 years, 3 years of your life following the wrong people. Find the right leadership, the right mentorship, surround yourself with people that are doing better than you are and follow their lead.  And I’m telling you right now the importance of that can decide if you’re going to be a success or a failure in our business. Because of the internet, and I’ve seen it, there’s a lot of these self proclaimed gurus and trainers, and want to be your mentor.  Ultimately this is your business and you need to take it seriously.  And I’m sure when you figure out what your why is or are, you want to make sure that you’re doing everything you can possible to make that business a success. And I’m here to tell you, that you’ve got to surround yourself with the right people.  It’s very, very important.  And right now you might be thinking, you know what my upline doesn’t support me, my upline isn’t there for me when I need them to be there.  Or the people I’m attracting in to the business, they’re not the caliber of people, they’re not serious, they’re hobby people, they’re not looking at really being serious with my business. You need to surround yourself with those like minded, driven individuals like yourself if you want to better your odds of being a success with our industry.  So I really wanted to tap on that with you Ed, I know this was kind of outside the scope of never quitting, never giving up, but I think that also that this is a very, very important piece to the puzzle.

Ed Mayer:

That’s great and you know that’s what this is all about, it’s all about helping people.  I just hope that even if one person on this call, or that listens in later, you know I just hope that something on here helps them as you, because I know your integrity, I know where your heart is, as far as I’m concerned you rock man, you’re awesome. You know, just in finishing up, I would like to thank you, I know your time is very, very valuable, and I appreciate your friendship, I appreciate what you do for the industry of network marketing because it is absolutely a better way, and if there’s anything else you would like to finish up with Eric, you go right ahead.

Eric Caprarese:

Ed, I want to just thank you, I know you’re a top income earner in a network marketing company that we share.  I haven’t brought that name up on purpose because I want this to be a generic call that can go out to the masses. But what you’re doing on the side here, by enabling people to get educated in our industry regardless of the company they are in, says a lot about you and your leadership and for me, to know that I’m friends with someone who’s willing to take the time to do what you’re doing with these interviews and getting it out there all over the internet and really worldwide now, says a lot about you Ed. And so you know, you’re the type of people I surround myself with, and that’s exciting, so I just want to thank you for what you’re doing here.  I think its absolutely, it’s not only a great testament to the way you do things and what you’re all about, but it really is extremely beneficial to our entire industry, so I just wanted to finish up by thanking you.

Ed Mayer:

Well, I appreciate that Eric, and you know for the past 3 years it’s been my motto, just helping others. Like the Zigmeister says, “If you help enough people get what they want, you’ll have what you want”. You know I’ve got a big heart and sometimes it falls against me and I don’t care because I love helping people in anyway that I can and that’s the bottom line because I say so. Anyway this is Ed Mayer coming from Hershey, Pennsylvania.  Eric Caprarese, thank you so darn much, you’re awesome. Listen folks if you can gather and listen to all the information that’s out there, the bottom line is this, once you take information in, act upon it, it will do you absolutely no good sitting inside your head,  You have to take action , ok? So God bless everybody, have the best day of your live and we’ll be coming at you soon. God bless.
